Abstract

This paper presents an IoT-based smart headgear system specifically designed for mining workers to monitor environmental conditions and detect hazardous situations in real-time. The system integrates multiple sensors including gas detectors, temperature monitors, and accelerometers to track air quality, ambient temperature, and potential accidents with automated alert mechanisms transmitted via LoRa communication.

The proposed mining headgear integrates an MQ-2 gas sensor for methane and carbon monoxide detection, a DHT22 temperature-humidity sensor, and an ADXL345 accelerometer for fall detection. Data is transmitted via LoRa (SX1278) to a central monitoring station. The system triggers audio-visual alarms when gas concentrations exceed threshold values defined by DGMS (Directorate General of Mines Safety) regulations.
